RECYCLE E-WASTE AT RIRRC ON JUNE 13

Dispose electronics and hazardous waste in one trip to the landfill

JOHNSTON, R.I. (May 21, 2009) – Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation will hold an Eco-Depot and computer collection on Saturday, June 13 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Central Landfill in Johnston. This household hazardous waste and e-waste collection program is free for all Rhode Island residents.

Most electronic waste — computers, monitors, printers, keyboards, laptops, CPUs, zip drives, scanners, modems, and mouse devices – can be recycled easily. By dropping off these materials at Resource Recovery, you can be assured that the equipment will be recycled properly and safely.

“Mixing e-waste with trash is banned in Rhode Island, so please recycle your computers and other electronic and computer waste with Resource Recovery,” said Mike OConnell, executive director of Rhode Island Resource Recovery. “We are experts in disposal and recycling and provide this valuable service to the state.”

Resource Recovery will also collect household hazardous wastes on June 13. Examples of HHW are propane gas tanks, oil-based paint, fluorescent light bulbs, automotive fluids and pesticides. If your unwanted products have warning labels on them, you must dispose them via the Eco-Depot service.

Although appointments are not necessary for recycling e-waste, they are necessary for the Eco-Depot. Call 942-1430 x241 or sign up online at www.rirrc.org and clicking on the Eco-Depot logo on the right-hand side of the page.

Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation is the quasi-state environmental agency dedicated to providing the public with environmentally sound programs and facilities to manage waste. The agency helps fund and promote the state’s recycling program, and owns and operates the Materials Recycling Facility and Central Landfill in Johnston.
